Skagit County Commissioners Decline Moratorium on Detention Centers: Community Group Left with Troubling Questions - Skagit Scoop
On July 10, 2026, five county residents met individually with each Skagit County Commissioner (Ron Wesen, Peter Browning, and Joe Burns) to propose a moratorium on ICE detention centers in Skagit. The group presented their case both orally and in writing, citing several nearby counties, including Whatcom, King, and Thurston, that have already adopted a moratorium, and closed by requesting an email response to their proposal.
