About The Darrington Sun
"Shedding Light"
The Darrington Sun is an independent publication launched in November 2025. It is a website open to the public with articles that shed light on things related to Darrington, Washington and the wider world.
You can add the site as a bookmark or favorite to view now and then. If you use email, you can also subscribe at no cost ever to get an email when new content is posted here online.
The Darrington Sun includes articles about the group Darrington Indivisible, which is part of a national movement of non-violent protest against the policies of the current administration. Non-partisan, not affiliated with any political party, Darrington Indivisible is focused on promoting democracy. Freedom of speech and of the press is a foundation of democracy. All areas of life are affected.
I hope to also cover other local news and events in The Darrington Sun.
The Darrington Sun is an independent project owned and operated by myself, Sylvia Stauffer.
About Sylvia
My husband and I have been Darrington homeowners since 2012, when we decided to spend our retirement in this beautiful small town. We have hiked and camped in the area with our family for years, driving up from the Bothell area where we raised our two children, now adults living in nearby areas. My father, Byron J. Clark, working as a civil engineer with the City of Seattle was here in 1950 surveying the Sauk River for a potential hydroelectric dam site. Luckily for all of us, the engineers said such a thing was a bad idea, harmful to fish.
Both my parents grew up in the Puget Sound area, both sets of grandparents came to the area in the early 1900s, so no surprise I like mountains and the outdoors. My two grandmothers immigrated from countries in Europe, bringing their hopes for a better life, along with their strong faith in humanity. My two grandfathers and my father all were members of the armed forces during times of war in this country. I consider myself a patriot and I subscribe to the promise of America which says all are welcome to come here, all people are created equal, and that liberty and justice is for all. We vote to ensure that the United States is ruled by the consent of the governed. Will we continue to have that power?
You may have seen me around town pulling weeds, planting things, or just walking around, as gardening outside is my favorite activity. I have volunteered to help with planting projects in local parks, in the school greenhouse program, and elsewhere around town for some years now. On our half-acre lot just south of town I've been experimenting with northwest native plants and enjoying the mountain air.
Help Wanted
I would like to have regular articles about things going on in and around Darrington, at least every two weeks. Send me your information and ideas, let's talk about it. See Welcome to the Darrington Sun.
